As we grow older, we tend to leave our homes less often, and the spaces we occupy begin to reflect ourselves. Irving Street is a photographic project that documents the lives of my Omami and Opapi within their home in New Jersey. Their house serves as both a personal symbol of my own childhood and a shared space where multiple generations of my family have lived. Through this project, I aim to explore the deep connection between place and memory, and how these feelings can be captured through photography.
Even in the absence of my Grandparents, the photographs of their home still embody their presence. Their legacy lives on within the walls of this houseāa monument to their lives and to the generations they shaped. Even as they pass, this house remains a testament to who they were, preserving our family’s history for years to come.
