past lives (2023)

In this project I chose to explore how place and memory can be tied to one another. With the large format camera, the photographer has the ability to easily shoot multiple exposure photographs. This class was my first time trying the camera, and I highly enjoyed the ghostly effect that these double exposures produced. I had been (as always) thinking a lot about my past, but specifically my hometown of Leesburg, Virginia, and all of the memories I hold there. I decided for the focus of this project I would photograph spots in my hometown that hold the most meaning to me. I went back to each place, and shot them as double exposures so I could be in the photos and visually portray what I see when revisiting these places.
